Canadian company Wiivv has launched its second Kickstarter campaign. This time its offering 3D printed sandals customized to scans from your smartphone.

Did you follow Wiivv’s custom insole Kickstarter campaign last year? Since successfully completing that campaign in 2016, the company has sold 15,000 custom insoles. Because of this success, the company has now launched its second campaign.

This time around, Wiivv goes one step further by introducing custom-fit sandals.

Wiivv is the brainchild of Shamil Hargovan and Louis-Victor Jadavji. For their work on the company, both featured in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for 2016.

Their shoes are easily customization thanks to a process involving simply scanning your foot using Wiivv’s proprietary smartphone app. From this scan, the company claims to measure 200 data points on each foot to create an accurate, 3D printable model.

“This is a long-awaited product for our team,” Hargovan explains. “It’s a big leap to go from an insole to an actual footwear product.”

Wiivv In Numbers

In addition to backer funding on Kickstarter, Wiivv has now raised more than $7 million in venture funding from investors. Such is their growing might, the company also purchased customizable footbed firm eSoles in February.

If you’re interested you can currently snag a pair for $70 by supporting the campaign. The final retail price will be $95.

At the time of writing $148,545 has been pledged of the campaign’s $250,000 goal. However, Hargovan would like to raise $1 million.

He explained to Forbes that he expects the company to generate more than $3 million in revenue for 2017. However, interestingly enough, Hargovan believes that the main business for Wiivv will comes from partnerships.

Perhaps every footwear company would benefit from a customized insole. Hargovan explains: “We will introduce new products to showcase the power of the technology, but we envision 80% of the business longer-term coming from our manufacturing capability.”
