Online 3D Printed Gun Blueprints Banned Again
A federal judge in the US ruled the Trump administration allowing Defense Distributed to publish 3D printed gun blueprints online was illegal.
Defense Distributed is no longer allowed to share 3D printed gun blueprints online, a federal judge in Seattle, USA ruled, reports Bloomberg News.
The Obama administration had previously banned posting gun blueprints online, saying they were violating arms export laws because they could be accessed and downloaded by anyone anywhere in the world. But federal judge Robert Lasnik ruled the Trump administration’s reversal of this decision in 2018 was illegal.
“Given the agency’s prior position regarding the need to regulate 3D-printed firearms and the CAD files used to manufacture them, it must do more than simply announce a contrary position,” he explained in his decision.
